The word Tuscany Decor evokes images of old world style with warm earthones, beautiful tiles, stucco and Mediterranean style furniture. Although the style evokes an antique and time worn ambiance, this type of old world décor is anything but outdated.
In fact, Tuscan design is one of the most sought after decorating styles for homes today because it is so elegant but still comfortable and unpretentious.
One of the keys to Italian decor is the stone. Age old bricks, marble and tiles are common in Mediterranean decorating and should be a key part of your Tuscan design. You might consider faux plaster walls, or adding Italian tile around your fireplace. Use stone for accents as well.
Tuscany Décor Colors
Tuscan colors are warm – golds, sage green, brick reds and the neutral grays and beiges natural stone abound. These colors can be reflected in your fabrics as well as your rugs and flooring. Extend them to your accessories and also your wall art for a great old world feel.

In the kitchen, you want to paint the walls an earthy color – brick red, sage green or even a dark pumpkin color. Or, if you prefer, you might go with a stucco wall for authentic old world appeal.
The floor should be stone tile to add authenticity to your Tuscany decor – use the large tiles and set them at an angle. You might go with marble if you want a fancy look or you could just go with a rough stone. Make sure you use real stone tiles though for an authentic look.
Marble is a fixture in old world decor and perfect for your Tuscan design. Use it for your countertops if you can but make sure to seal it properly and beware that marble is porous so you will have to be careful that it does not stain.
Tuscan Furniture
As with most Mediterranean decor, Tuscan furniture can be a bit grand for some tastes. You want to use heavy wood furniture with a leaning toward antiquity. Big heavy pieces are really what goes best with this look. Not too ornate though but with just the right amount of style.
If you are going for more of an Italian country look, then you might want to go with rough country style furniture. Even pieces that have some sanded off or flaky paint can look great with your Tuscany decor.
Another option is wrought iron furniture which can be perfect in a Tuscan patio or kitchen.
